Johnson City, TN- Due to weather in the area the second round of the East Tennessee Collegiate has been canceled, announced by tournament officials. UC led all teams after round one earning them first place for the tournament.
Carlee Shoemaker will also take home the individual title after posting the best score on day one.
As a team, the Patriots scored a 308 (+20), defeating the next closest opponent by eight strokes. The field consisted of ten teams and 57 individual golfers. Dating back to last season this is UC's third consecutive team victory.
Shoemaker won her first tournament of the season and fourth individual title of her career. The Central City, KY native boasted a score of 71 (-1) defeating the rest of the field who averaged a score of 83.5. This marks back-to-back seasons that Shoemaker has won the season opener.
Lucia Pena and
Hannah Griffith both ranked in the top-ten, finishing eighth and tied for ninth respectively. Pena had a score of 77 (+5) with two birdies on the day and Griffith scored a 78 (+6) with one birdie.
Viviane Braun and
Jordan Comer helped UC win the team title with competitive scores of their own. Braun finished tied for 20th place tallying a score of 82 (+15) and Comer was just five strokes behind Braun recording an 87 (+15) for 36th place.
Freshman,
Elena Hortian competed as an individual for UC, marking her first collegiate tournament. Hortian recorded a score of 90 (+18) finishing tied for 48th place.
Next UC will travel to Athens, AL for the two day Redhawk Fall Classic starting on October 5.
