Kansas City, MO – For the second time this season a Patriot student-athlete has been named the NAIA Men's Swimmer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Freshman
Alexander Poulsen totaled six wins and five national cuts over UC's first two meets to garner these accolades.
The freshman made a splash right from the start as he pulled away from the field and clocked a 44.29 to win the 100 free. That time broke Cumberlands school record by 0.08 seconds and is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season. Poulsen followed that up by being part of both UC's winning relays, including the 200 free relay that posted a winning time of 1:24.30.
Poulsen followed that up by touching the wall in 20.50 to win the 50-free against Lindsey Wilson. That marked his second individual national cut and was the third fastest time in program history. The Birkerød, Denmark native also won the 100 fly finishing in 50.16 clipping the cut by over two seconds. He closed out the meet helping Cumberlands win the 200 free relay with a season-best time of 1:24.28. Poulsen is currently ranked top-four in the NAIA in the three individual events.
UC returns to the water Friday, October 31, when they travel to Greencastle, IN to face DePauw University in a two-day meet. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
