Men’s Swimming Earns Pair of Wins Saturday

Barbourville, KY – The UC Men's Swim Team hit 14 national cuts en route to a pair of wins Saturday afternoon.  The Patriot defeated Union 153-105 and Bethel 205-25 to move to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 against the Mid-South Conference.

Viktor Lyson, Daric Sundeen, and Joel Westerlind each picked up a pair of individual wins in the meet.  Lyson touched the wall in 21.95 in the 50 free and followed that up by going 48.51 in the 100 free.  Both of those times were NAIA "A" cuts for Lyson, who now hold "A" cuts in four individual events. 

Sundeen won the 200 free with a time of 1:49.00 and the 100 butterfly hitting the wall in 53.53.  Westerlind posted first place finishes in both the 100 back (56.15) and 200 back (2:00.63).  Each of these times earned Sundeen and Westerlind "B" cuts in their respective events.

Blaise Snowberg also hit a national cut in the 200 back touching the wall in 2:01.54.  Jacob Smith was the final UC swimmer to hit multiple qualifying marks in individual events as he made the NAIA "B" standard in both the 100 breast (1:00.29) and the 200 breast (2:14.31)

In the 500 free, Gustavs Baumanis led the trio of Patriots to a clean sweep.  Baumanis swam 5:02.52 to take the win, while Michael Cain finished second with a time of 5:08.02.  Michael Monday finished third touching the wall in 5:10.55.

Monday followed that up by earning a runner-up finish and hitting a "B" standard in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.06.  Bryce Pierce and Carl Rogne each posted one national cut on the afternoon.  Pierce swam 49.26 in the 100 free, while Rogne went 2:03.72 in the 200 butterfly.

Michael Cain garnered the Patriots final individual win as he took first place in the 1000 free with a time of 10:27.50. Snowberg finished second in the event after going 10:30.25.

Cumberlands started the meet with Lyson, Smith, Sundeen and Pierce teaming up to go 1:37.45 in the 200 medley relay. 

The Patriots will return to the water Thursday, November 2, when they host Centre at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and live video is available here, while live results will be available here.
