Mission Statement

The purpose of the University of the Cumberlands Sports Medicine Department is to serve the Intercollegiate Athletic Department in providing adequate health care for the student-athlete population of the university.  The academic preparedness, strong work ethic, and desire for excellence exhibited by the sports medicine staff helps to support the mission of the university through its professional actions and mentoring of staff and student-athletes.

Vision Statement

It is the responsibility of the UC Department of Athletics to protect each student athlete actively participating in Intercollegiate sports from bodily harm and injury. When injury or sport related medical conditions occur due to the inherent risk during sport participation, the immediate emergency care and prevention of further injury is of the utmost importance. The rapid and safe return of the athlete to full participation is the desired goal of the University of the Cumberlands athletic training staff.  Sound medical judgment supported through:  proper evaluation techniques, seeking adjunct medical referral when needed or advised, and  the timely administration of proper immediate care as well as post injury rehabilitative measures, are all employed to advance this goal. By acting sensibly and rationally in the handling of the injured or ill student athlete, the athletic training staff can protect the student athlete from further harm while also protecting the university and its agents. The efforts of the athletic training and coaching staff are the same in that we want our athletes to achieve athletic excellence, and we insist that our athletes expect nothing less than excellence from the athletic training staff in return.
