Patriots Hit 13 “A” Standards in Season Opening Win over Lindsey Wilson

Williamsburg, KY – The UC Women's Swim Team won 12 events and made 13 NAIA "A" standards en route to a 159-86 win over Lindsey Wilson in their season opener Saturday at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center.  The Patriots also had six swimmers that made the NAIA "B" standard in the meet.

Leading the way for the Patriots were newcomers Cameron Klimczak, Mendy De Rooi, and Houston Burgoon.  Klimczak won all three of her individual events, hitting the NAIA "A" standard in each.  She swam 1:08.17 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:26.51 in the 200 breaststroke, which was nine seconds faster than the standard.  She also touched the wall in 2:12.31 to win the 200 individual medley.

De Rooi and Burgoon each notched a pair of "A" standards in their collegiate debuts.  De Rooi won both the 100 butterfly (2:15.84) and the 200 butterfly (2:15.84), while Burgoon won the 50 free (25.13) and was second in the 100 free (1:59.24).

Christina Klouda won the 200 backstroke touching the wall in 2:09.56 to hit the "A" standard, while Nicole Ceausu swam 2:18.63 to hit the "B" standard.  Klouda also swam 1:59.24, which is three seconds faster than standard, in the 200 free.

In the 100 backstroke, Brittany Litke went 1:02.90 to win the event and hit a "B" standard, while Nicole Ceausu finished second with a time of 1:04.38.  Litke followed that up by hitting an "A" standard in the 100 free (55.72).  Casey Walin hit the final individual "A" standard for the Patriots in the 200 yard butterfly as she touched the wall in 2:18.73.

RaeLeigh Stansbery posted a pair of first place finishes in her collegiate debut.  Stansbery opened her season by swimming 11:27.43 in the 1000 free. She followed that up by going 5:35.69 and hitting a "B" standard in the 500 free.  

Katy Smeltzer and Kenzie Pennington both hit the "B" cut in their respective events.  Smelzter swam 26.32 in the 50 free, while Pennington touched the wall in 1:11.80 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:37.48 in the 200 breaststroke.

Danielle Rehl posted a 173.78 in the one-meter dive competition.

In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, Smeltzer, Burgoon, Klouda, and Litke teamed up to win the event with a time of 3:44.34.

The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, October 14, when they travel to Barbourville, KY to face Union and Bethel in a tri-meet.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
