Women’s Swimming Defeats Centre 140-91

Williamsburg, KY – The fourth-ranked UC Women's Swim Team hit 14 NAIA "A" cuts and three NAIA "B" standards en route to a 140-91 win over Centre Thursday night at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center.  The Patriots won nine of the 13 events to improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Mendy De Rooi and Cameron Klimczak who each posted a pair of individual wins.  De Rooi began the meet by touching the wall in 24.87 to win the 50 free.  That time was 0.08 second improvement over her previous season-best and ranks her second in the Mid-South Conference.  She followed that up by winning the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.79.

Competing in the 400 individual medley for the first time this season, Klimczak swam a winning time of 4:42.76.  That time is the fastest time in the MSC this year and is 18 seconds faster than the "A" standard.  In the 100 free, Klimczak out touched teammate Houston Burgoon for the win with a time of 55.09.  Burgoon swam a season-best time 55.16 for the runner-up finish.  Burgoon also finished second in the 50 free with a time of 25.13, which was an "A" standard.   

Christina Klouda led a trio of UC swimmers in the 100 back, winning the event with a time of 1:00.03. That time was a season-best for Klouda and ranks her first in the MSC.  Klouda also posted a season-best time of 1:58.23 in the 200 free to finish second.  Brittany Litke earned his second "A" cut of the season as she touched the wall in 2:01.87.

Raeleigh Stansbery extended her win streak in the 1000 yard free to three straight meets as she touched the wall in 11:04.17, which was a 17 second improvement over her previous season best.  She also hit her first "A" cut of the season in the 500 free as she finished with a time of 5:23.85.

Kenzie Pennington recorded Cumberlands final individual win of the meet as she led a trio of Patriots swimming with a time of 1:11.17.  Nicole Ceausu finished second (1:15.69), while Stansbery took third (1:17.73). Pennington along with Casey Walin also earned national cuts in the 400 IM.

Katy Smeltzer achieved "B" cuts in both the 50 free and 100 yard free swimming 25.99 and 58.77, respectfully.

UC also won both the 400 medley relay (4:03.91) as well as the 400 free relay (3:40.96) to capture their final two victories of the meet.

The Patriots will return to the water on Friday, November 17, as they travel to Cleveland, OH to take part in the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State University.
