Louisville, KY – The sixth-ranked UC men's wrestling won six of the ten matches, including the final two, to defeat Bellarmine 26-17 Tuesday night at Knights Hall. With the win the Patriots improve to 2-0 in duals while the Knights drop to 0-1.
Fifth-ranked
Hayden Lee got the match started with a 15-0 tech fall over Caleb Yates in the 125 pound weight class. Lee continues his strong start to the season as he improves to 10-0. At 133 pounds,
John Williams won in a 6-4 overtime decision over Chris Spano to push the Patriot lead to 8-0. The Knights then took the win at 141 pounds to shorten the UC lead to 8-4, however the Patriots bounced back with a fall win. Fourth-ranked
Tres Leon, 149 pounds, pinned Alex Rhine in 26 seconds for Cumberlands to extend their lead to 14-4. The Knights won at 157 pounds to shorten UC's lead down to 14-8.
Fourth-ranked
Tristan Macri, 165 pounds, pushed the Patriots ahead further to 17-8 by defeating Eric Beck in a 7-5 decision in overtime. Bellarmine came back to tie the match 17-17 with back-to-back wins at 174 and 184 pounds. UC rallied and closed out the match with two straight wins. At 197, ninth-ranked
Eric Deluse defeated Brett Bryant in a 14-1 major decision to push UC ahead, while 16
th-ranked
Quandre Chisolm, 285 pounds, defeated Cody Gibbons in a 16-0 tech fall for Cumberlands to win the match 26-17.
The Patriots will return to the mat on Saturday, December 2 in Lakeland, FL for two matches. UC will take on MSC rival Southeastern University at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Reinhardt University at 2 p.m.
