Patriots Win 11 Events; Top Colonels 162-72

Williamsburg, KY – The fourth-ranked UC Men's Swim Team won 11 of the 13 events to defeat Centre 162-72 Thursday night at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center.  The Patriots posted five NAIA "A" standards and ten "B" standard to help UC improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

Viktor Lyson, Bryce Pierce, and David Groh led the way for the Patriots with two wins apiece.  Lyson touched the wall in season-best time of 51.07 to win the 100 butterfly.   He also posted a new season-best time in the 50 free as he swam 21.92. Joey Sedacca, competing for the first time this season, finished second with a "B" cut of 21.99, while Chase Simmons swam 22.89 to finish third. 

Pierce posted first place finishes in both the 100 free and the 200 free events swimming 49.57 and 1:48.11, respectfully.  Both of those times were "B" cuts for Pierce, who is ranked fourth in the MSC in the 200 free.  Daric Sundeen (1:50.41) and Michael Monday (1:50.90) also achieved "B" standards in the 200 free.  
Groh recorded first-place finishes in both of the diving competitions during the meet.  He tallied 185.10 in the six dive format, before scoring 133.30 in the five dive format.

Swimming the 400 individual medley for the first time this season, the Patriots swept the competition as they had the top three finishers.  Joel Westerlind won the event with a time of 4:18.55, which was a NAIA "A" standard and is the fastest time in the conference.  Jacob Smith finished second with a time of 4:25.94, while Carl Rogne touched the wall in 4:30.11.

Westerlind followed that up by claiming a "B" standard along with Blaise Snowberg in the 100 back.  Snowberg went 55.81 to finish second, almost a half second ahead of Westerlind.

In the 500 free, Alan Senn led a trio of Patriot swimmers with a winning time of 4:56.95.  Michael Cain finished third, while Snowberg touched the wall in fourth. Hunter Eaton earned his first collegiate victory of his career as he won the 100 breaststroke.

UC final two wins of the meet came from the relays as Cumberlands won both the 400 medley relay (3:33.39) as well as the 400 free relay (3:18.90).

The Patriots will return to the water on Friday, November 17, as they travel to Cleveland, OH to take part in the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State University.
