Williamsburg, KY – The tenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands women's wrestling team opens Mid-South Conference action by knocking off defending MSC champions Campbellsville University by a score of 24-19, Wednesday night in the UC Volleyball Gym. The team notched three falls, one tech-fall and one decision to earn there first victory over the Tigers since January 12, 2014.
In the 101 weight class,
Becca Forsyth defeated Kate Barnett by fall at the 2:42 mark to take an early 5-0 led. Campbellsville would win the 109 division by a tech fall to cut the lead to 5-4.
Jessica Rodriguez, wrestling in the 116 weight class, fell behind early but made a comeback, earning a fall at the 3:39 mark to extend UC lead to 10-4. The Tigers would take the next two weights classes with a decision and tech fall to tie the match at 11-11.
For the next three weight classes the Patriots would claim victory. Starting in the 136 match,
Bridgette Duty improved to 3-1 on the season with a pin (1:54) to push UC's led back out to 16-11.
Kelly-Ann Jimenez followed with a win in a 10-0 tech fall over Lilly Binion-Ferrell in the 143 weight class to give the Patriots a 20-11 advantage.
Anna Naylor earned the team three points for her 10-3 decision victory over Alexia Foca to clinch the match for Cumberlands.
UC dropped the next two matches but held onto win the match 24-19.
The Patriots return to mat on Sunday, November 18 when they travel to Marshall, MO for the Missouri Valley Open. Match is set for 9 am.
