Wilmore, KY – The third-ranked UC women's swimming & diving team posted four wins and eight NAIA "A" cuts on the final day of the UC-Asbury-Keiser tri-meet Saturday afternoon. The Patriots are defeat Asbury 222-88, however fell to second-ranked Keiser 176-136.
Mendy De Rooi,
Yuliia Hnidenko, and
Christina Klouda all posted at least one win on the afternoon. De Rooi led the Patriots with two wins on the day, including taking top honors in the 100 free with a time of 53.99. De Rooi also placed first in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 57.81, to set a new pool record. That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.
Hnidenko swam 1:08.23 to finish first in the 100 breast for her second win of the meet. Hnidenko and
Amy Hedrick both hit a "B" cut in the 200 IM swimming 2:17.22 and 2:20.59, respectfully.
Klouda continued her strong meet by winning the 200 back with a time of 2:08.27. Klouda won the race by over four seconds and holds the top time in the NAIA this season. Teammate
Cameron Klimczak notched her first national cut of the season as she finished fifth in the event touching the wall in 2:19.37.
Leah Thomas earned a pair of "A" cuts on the day in the 100 and 200 free. Thomas swam 56.01 in the 100 free, before going 1:59.04 in the 200 free to earn a runner-up finish.
The Patriots had two other "B" standards as
Houston Burgoon (56.61) and Becca Loftus (56.66) hit the cut in the 100 free.
In the final event of the event, the 400 free relay, Burgoon, Smeltzer, Klouda and De Rooi touched the wall in 3:41.36 to post a second place finish. That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season.
The Patriots will return to the water Friday, November 16, as they travel to Cleveland, OH to take part in the Magnus Cup.
