Box Score Williamsburg, KY – The 14
th-ranked University of the Cumberlands took a 2-1 lead after doubles but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell 5-4 to (RV) Union Thursday afternoon at the UC Tennis Courts. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 2-2, while the Patriots move to 0-3.
Teaming up for the first time this season
Haley Mahan and
Hannah Wampler earned an 8-2 decision at #2 doubles to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead. After Union evened the score,
Denee Lyttle and
Luka Lyttle teamed up to defeated Christina Schoener and Alina Schweizer 8-3 at #3 doubles to put the Patriots ahead 2-1.
Union earned straight sets win at #1, #2, and #3 singles to take a 4-2 lead. At #4 singles
Luka Lyttle held Brittany Lamb in check as she won 6-0, 6-2. Wampler followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #5 singles to tie the score 4-4. At #6 singles
Marian Bogajo faced Schweizer, with the match starting with the two players trading points. Schweizer eventually pulled away with a 6-4, 6-1 win to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.
The Patriots return to the court Wednesday, February 28, when they host Midway at 2 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
