Nagao Records Lone Point as Patriots Fall

Young Harris, GA – The UC women's tennis team continued their toughest stretch of the season as they took on Young Harris, who is ranked eighth in their region of the NCAA Division II. Tomomi Nagao score UC's lone point at #1 singles as the Patriots fell 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Courts With the win the Mountain Lions improve to 9-3, while the Patriots move to 2-6.

Cumberlands fell behind early as Young Harris notched a quick point at #2 doubles.  Both #1 doubles and #3 doubles fell 8-3, giving the Mountain Lions a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Young Harris post straight set wins at #6, #5, #4, and #3 singles to take a 7-0 lead and clinch the match.  At #2 singles, Jaclyn Jewell dropped the first set to Oriana Labaqui 6-3, but battled back to force a tiebreaker in the second set.  Labaqui won the tiebreaker 7-3 to win the set 7-6 and secure another point for Young Harris.  Nagao came out strong winning her first set 6-1 over Elin Rundcrantz.  Nagao dropped the second set before winning the third set 10-7.

The Patriots will return to the court Tuesday, March 20, when they host MSC foe Shawnee State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
