Box Score Williamsburg, KY – The UC women's tennis team defeated Midway 9-0 to post the first win of the season Friday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win UC improves to 1-3, while the Eagles move to 4-2.
Hannah
Wampler and
Haley Mahan got the Patriots started with an 8-1 win over Madison Chambers and Jillian Verbrugghe at #3 doubles.
Tomomi Nagao and
Jaclyn Jewell followed with an 8-2 win at #2 doubles, while
Luka Lyttle and
Denee Lyttle recorded an 8-3 win at #2 doubles to give Cumberlands a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
In singles play, Nagao defeated Gabby Meis 6-3, 3-1 (retire) to extend the lead to 4-0. Jewell and
Denee Lyttle both won 6-1, 6-0 at #2 and #3 singles, respectfully, to clinch the match for Cumberlands. At #4 singles
Marian Bogajo earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Amber Pierce.
Luka Lyttle and
Wampler closed out the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins at #5 and #6 singles for the 9-0 final.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, March 3, when they host Point. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
