Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands head women's tennis coach Chin Tan has announced the signing of local standout Tessa Jane Gray as part of the 2018 class.

"I'm proud to commit to the University of the Cumblerlands to further my academic and my athletic career," said Gray. "I'm very excited to play for Coach Tan and the University of the Cumberlands in the fall. Go Patriots!"

Gray is from Mayslick, KY where she plays tennis at Mason County High School.  She has found a lot of success on the court winning the tenth Region in 2017 after finishing runner-up in 2016.  Gray has also won the Kentucky Junior Tennis Team in each of the past two years as well as competed at the 2017 Junior Tennis Southern Championship.

In addition to her success on the court, Gray shines in the classroom as well as being active on campus.  She serves as the Vice President of the Student Body, member of the FCA, the Red Cross Club, Orchestra, HOSA, and BETA Club.  Gray has the highest GPA in her class.

Gray is the daughter of Mark and Tammy Gray and is looking to major in Pre-Medicine at UC.

Gray added, "I would like to thank my parents for supporting my passion to play tennis. Coach Clay Boone and Coach Matt Jolley have helped me grow as a player and a person and for that I'm truly grateful for the time and energy they have invested."

The women's tennis team is coming off a national tournament appearance last season and is 2-6 so far this season.
