Box Score Williamsburg, KY – Playing their second match in two days, the UC women's tennis team swept the singles match to defeat Point 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the UC Tennis Complex. With the win UC improves to 2-3, while the Skyhawks move to 4-3.
The Patriots earned 8-3 wins at both #1 and #2 doubles to jump out to an early 2-0 lead.
Jaclyn Jewell and
Tomomi Nagao defeated Sofia Villalobos and Maddi Marler at #1, while
Denee Lyttle and
Luka Lyttle teamed up at #2 doubles. At #3 doubles,
Haley Mahan and
Hannah Wampler battled Luz Padilla and Martina Belloni. The duos traded points and forced a tiebreaker but ultimately fell 9-8 to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
Cumberlands responded with strong singles play
Luka Lyttle extended UC's lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the third position. Nagao and Jewell followed wining at #1 and #2, respectfully, to clinch the match. At #4 singles,
Denee Lyttle dropped the first set 4-6, but rallied to win the match 6-1, 10-3 and give UC a 6-1 advantage.
Marian Bogajo and Wampler closed out the match with straight set wins at #5 and #6 singles.
The Patriots will return to the court Friday, March 9, when they host second-ranked Lindsey Wilson in their MSC opener. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
