Bowling Green, KY – The third-seed UC men's tennis team notched a 5-0 win over sixth-seed Pikeville to advance to the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament Friday afternoon at Kereiakes Parks. With the win the Patriots improve to 8-10, while the Bears move to 3-9.
The Patriots started the match up 3-0 with Pikeville defaulting points at #3 doubles as well as #5 and #6 singles.
The MSC second team all-conference duo of
Aatu Merenheimo and
Luis Montull recorded an 8-2 win over Devon Sgubin and Keanton Hall at #2 doubles to extend the lead to 4-0.
Martin Barbier partnered with
Eric Banoub for an 8-6 win over Bailey Horne and Andres Alvarez at #1 singles for the 5-0 final and clinch the match.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 21, when they face the second-seed Cumberland, who defeated Shawnee State 7-0, in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the WKU Tennis Court.
