Box Score Barbourville, KY – Facing their second-ranked opponent in five days, the UC women's tennis team fell to 21
st-ranked Union 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Union Tennis Complex. With the win the Bulldogs improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Patriots move to 6-8.
Union jumped out to an early lead with a win at #1 doubles. The Patriots evened the score as
Denee Lyttle and
Luka Lyttle notched an 8-1 win over Erika Broady and Kacie Dotson at #3 doubles. The Bulldogs used an 8-1 win at #2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Cumberlands looked to come out strong in singles play. At #4 singles,
Denee Lyttle defeated Brittany Lamb 6-1, 6-0 to tie the match 2-2. However, that was the closest UC got as Union picked up straight set wins at #3, #2, and #1 singles to clinch the match 5-2. Both
Marian Bogajo (#5 singles) and
Hannah Wampler (#6 singles) matches were suspended because the match was clinched.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 7, when they host (RV) Marian. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the UC Tennis Complex.
