Box Score Mobile, AL – Making their second straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament, the UC women's tennis team put up a valiant effort but it wasn't enough as they fell to 14
th-seed SCAD 9-0 in the opening round Tuesday morning at the Mobile Tennis Center. With the win the Bees improve to 11-5, while the Patriots finish the season 10-11.
SCAD jumped out to quick 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. At #1 doubles, the team of
Jaclyn Jewell and
Tomomi Nagao traded points to start the match before ultimately falling 8-6.
Denee Lyttle partnered with
Luka Lyttle battled Julia Albuquerque and Nicole Katzarkov but fell 9-7 giving the Bees a 3-0 lead.
The Bees posted straight sets wins at #1, #6, and #5 singles to clinch the match and extend their lead to 6-0. At #2 singles, Jewell took won the first set 6-1 however Valerie Droop came back to take the next two sets 3-6, 2-6 to win the point.
SCAD add another point at #4 singles, before
Luka Lyttle won the first set over Weber 3-1. Lyttle ultimately dropped the point in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-2).
