Men's Wrestling Notches Pair of Wins at Midway

Midway, KY – The fifth-ranked UC men's wrestling team walked away from Midway 2-0 on the day after defeating Emmanuel College 31-10 and Midway University 43-6. The Patriots now stand 9-2 overall in duals, standing a perfect 3-0 in Mid-South Conference action after downing the Midway Eagles.
 
Hayden Lee, ranked third in the 125 lbs. weight class, led off for the Patriots against Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon, winning 16-0 for a tech fall over Deven Perez. In a 15-5 major decision, Jacobs Seto won over his opponent with his first major decision win of the season. Chase Brown expanded the Patriot's lead over the Lions, bringing the score to 12-0 after a 5-0 decision over the Lion's Taquel Young.
 
Emmanuel cut into the scoring margin, taking ten points from UC in the 149, 157 and 165 weight classes making it a two point lead for the Patriots. UC would not allow another match to be taken by the Lions, tallying 19 more points toward the win.
 
Ranking 20th in the 174 lbs. weigh class, Jarod Swank won his sixth match-up of the season with a 16-0 tech fall. Max Emerson pinned Kyle Graham to give the Patriots six points for the 184 weight class. Sitting comfortably with a 23-10 lead over the Lions, the Patriots notched two major decisions in their favor to close out the dual. Austin Matthews won the 197 lbs. match-up 9-1, while Quandre Chisolm, ranked ninth, won 12-1 in the 285 lbs. weight class.
 
Midway entered the dual 1-4 after falling to Emmanuel as well, 29-11, and ranking 0-3 against MSC opponents in their inaugural season. The Eagles were only able to score in the 125 and 174 weight class rounds.
 
Cumberlands opened well over Midway, tallying a tech fall and pin in the first two rounds. Lee once again led the Patriots to an early 5-0 lead, taking the advantage with 16-0 win by tech fall. Seto pinned down Midway's Dymond Smith at the 3:31 mark, his second pin of the season. Brown and Novack were able to draw the win on major decisions in their respective weight classes, tallying up 13-2 and 13-4.
 
Midway's only win came by forfeit as Lee Johnson drew the six points in the Eagles favor. Brady Emerson took the 165 lbs. weight class on a 6-0 decision to give the Patriots a 22-6 edge. Swank followed up with 13-0 major decision in UC's favor.
 
Max Emerson continued to show great performance closing out the weekend with another pin, this time at the 2:10 mark. The junior now holds a 4-5 record for the season, but has tallied all four wins by fall, two of which this weekend.
 
Rounding out the evening, Eric Deluse, ranked sixth for the 197 lbs. weight class, made his appearance for a 18-1 win by tech fall. Chisolm won by Midway forfeit for his second win of the weekend.
 
The Patriots looks to keep their momentum with with next weekend's road trip. UC will travel to Marshall, MO, taking to the mats against the Missouri Valley Invite, hosted by Missouri Valley College on January 18 and 19.
