Barbourville, KY –The third-ranked UC women's swimming & diving team tallied 17 national cuts and 12 wins in a 186-86 win over Union Saturday afternoon at the Union College Center for Health & Learning.
Izzy Jackson,
Maryann Smith, and
Abigail Miller each notched a pair of wins to lead UC. Jackson swam 1:03.68 and 2:19.25 to win the 100 and 200 back, respectfully. The freshman also achieved "B" cuts in both of those events.
Smith started the meet by winning the 1000 free with a time of 11:23.10. The Kettering, OH native followed that up by touching the wall in 1:01.49 to win the 100 fly. Teammate
Yuliia Hnidenko finished runner-up in the event with a time 1:03.07. Hnidenko added an "A" standard in addition to a win in the 100 breast (1:08.03).
Miller, competing in her first collegiate meet, scored a 193.99 to achieve a NAIA "A" cut and win the one-meter dive event. Miller also took first in the three-meter dive with a score of 184.65.
Mendy De Rooi notched a pair of NAIA "A" standards going 24.79 in the 50 free and 53.84 in the 100 free.
Houston Burgoon placed third in the 50 free (26.18) to hit a "B" cut.
Leah Thomas,
Casey Walin, and
Maria Basto each notched an individual win in the meet. Thomas won the 500 free (5:40.75), while Walin touched the wall in 2:22.00 to take top honors in the 200 fly. Basto achieved a "B" standard en route to winning the 200 IM. The freshman also went 1:59.31 to achieve an "A" cut in the 200 free.
Isabelle Asserstahl notched UC's final "A" cut of the meet going 2:33.43 in the 200 breast.
The Patriots closed out the meet with the relay team of Thomas, Loftus, De Rooi, and Burgoon swimming 3:44.63 to win the 400 free relay.
Cumberlands will return to the water Saturday, November 2, when they host Loyola (LA) in their home opener. The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with live video available
