Columbia, KY – The fourth-ranked University of the Cumberlands men's swimming and diving team notched 11 national cuts and ten wins to defeat Lindsey Wilson 161-95 in their season opening Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots notched four "A" cuts and seven "B" cuts on the day.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Viktor Lyson, who won both of his individual events with "A" standards. The junior started his day going 53.49 to win the 100 back before touching the wall in 52.58 to take top honors in the 100 fly.

Newcomers Mats Kamnes and Mikolaj Kala each posted a pair of wins in the meet.  Kamnes won the 200 free with a time of 1:50.18 and went 5:00.71 to win the 500 free.  Both of those times were NAIA "B" cuts for the freshman.

Kala won both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:00.38 and 2:15.46, respectfully.  Teammate Nathan Souza also achieved a "B" standard in the 100 breast touching the wall in 1:00.92 for a runner-up finish.

Zane Spurlock tallied his first collegiate win in the 50 free going 22.21 and hitting a "B" cut.  The freshmen also posted a runner-up finish in the 100 free (51.30).  Alan Senn posted UC's final individual win as he won the 1000 free with a time of 10:19.22. 

Trey Wolfram notched a "B" cut in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:00.56.  Joel Westerlind recorded a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 back (2:02.41) and the 200 IM (2:07.73).

The Patriots took top honors in both of the relays, including Cecioni, Souza, Lyson, and Spurlock teaming up to go 1:37.83 in the 200 medley relay to open the meet. Lyson, Spurlock, Kamnes, and Souza closed out the meet by winning the 200 free relay with a time of 1:29.19.

UC will return to the water Saturday, October 12, when they travel to Barbourville, KY to face Union in a dual meet.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
