FULL RESULTS
Columbia, KY – Patriots open dual-meet action with an undefeated weekend against NAIA competition, including a big win over #3 Marian Knights.
At the NAIA Challenge Duals, the #7 Patriots downed two ranked opponents. Cumberlands defeated Marian in a well-fought 24-19 battle after outpacing #19 Williams Baptist, 43-6.
The unranked 125-pounder
Chandlar Akins opened action against the Knights with an 8-6 decision over eighth-ranked Christopher sharp. Unranked nationally as well,
Jacob McNutt downed Brett Johnson, fifth at 165, in a 10-2 major. Number five at 197,
Eric Deluse stretched the score margin out of reach with a pin in the fifth minute to help the Patriots defeat Marian.
Previously, Cumberlands charted three wins over ranked opponents en route to a dual-opening win over #19 Williams Baptist.
Jacob Seto, third at 133 pounds in the NAIA, pinned his top-20 opponent two minutes into the first period, while unranked
Bryce Nickel claimed the 8-7 decision over #17 Jaitlan Pitts in the 141-pound match-up. McNutt rallied 17 points in 5:51 for the tech fall over his top-20 opposer as well.
The Patriots also picked up three more team wins on Saturday, including 50-6 over Lyon College, a 59-point margin over Lincoln College, and 41-6 victory over Lindsey Wilson's B-Team.
McNutt stood above the competition on Saturday after going 5-0, 2-0 against opponents ranked nationally. The 165-pounder registered two pins (6:34), two tech falls (33-1, 9:15) and a major decision in his five starts.
At 133 pounds, #3 Seto also went undefeated in his five matches, claiming one against a raked opponent. The junior collected two pin falls (8:22), a tech fall (17-2, 3:21) and a decision through the outing.
Tres Leon tallied four wins over the stretch as a 157-pounder, tallying three pins for a total time of 5:53 as well as 20 match points toward a tech fall against Marian in the seventh minute. Meanwhile, #5 heavyweight
Aaron Johnson collected the same record; the big man notched a 4:58 pin against Lincoln.
Filling in for Deluse in the final three matches, #10
Ramsey Bloy went 3-0 with a pin in the fourth minute against Lincoln College. At 174 pounds,
Brady Emerson went 4-1 with a 2:52 pin fall against Lyon and 17 points scored in the three-minute tech fall over his Williams Baptist opponent.
In five team match-ups, the Patriots tallied 216 team points from 13 pin falls, seven tech falls, one major and nine decisions. Individually, UC wrestlers went 42-8 while outscoring their opponents 168-49 in match points.
The Patriots charted 13 wins by fall on the day, combining for a total time of 39:07 and an average of roughly three minutes each. The quickest pin of the day belonged to Akins who claimed the win after only 37 seconds of action.
The Patriots travel to Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL at the end of the week to continue dual action. The triple-header meet slates the Patriots against NAIA-ranked competitors including a cross-MSC divisional match with the hosting #9 Fire, #20 Indiana Tech Warriors, and #2 Reinhardt Eagles.
