Williamsburg, KY - Cumberlands women's wrestling hosted the Patriot Duals for their home opener. Of the five teams competing four of them were ranked in the top eleven led by top-ranked Life University.
The Patriots were able to defeat eighth-ranked Lyon by a score of 21-19 and 11th-ranked Missouri Valley by a score of 32-16. UC finished the day going 3-2 with their two losses being Life (29-18) and tenth-ranked Campbellsville (32-14)
The UC women's wrestling team was once again led by the performance of Bridgette Duty who went 5-0 on the day with three tech falls. One of her tech falls came against fourth-ranked Sophia Carson of Campbellsville. Her five wins are a new career best at a single meet and her overall 10-1 start to the year is the Needville, TX native's best opening record of her three seasons in a Cumberlands uniform.
There were other Patriots who had top career marks to open dual-meet action. Junior, Ashley Tobe had her first career pin (1:34) in her match against Missouri Valley and she notched a win by decision marking her first career multi-win meet. Joining her fellow junior with a first career pin was Olivia Coyne in the 101 weight class with a time of 5:30 against Campbellsville's B team.
The Patriots were led in the pin fall category by Kailee Godinez who had two on the day at 2:27 and 3:30.
Senior, Madison Angelito posted the second best record for the Patriots going 4-1 with two tech falls both by a score of 10-0 in the 116 weight class.
Andrea Schlabach continues to impress in her first year with UC having a combined record of 3-2 with one tech fall and one pin fall (2:33).
The Patriots will return to the mats on Friday, December 6, where they will have a dual meet against a familiar foe in Campbellsville.
