Williamsburg, KY –The fourth-ranked UC men's swimming & diving team posted 14 NAIA national cuts en route to a 145-51 win over MSC rival Campbellsville Saturday afternoon at the Patriots Aquatic Center. The Patriots achieved five "A" cuts and nine "B" standards to go along with recording nine wins.
Viktor Lyson,
Joel Westerlind, and
Mats Kamnes each finished with an "A" standard on the day. Lyson swam 48.48 to win the 100 free by over three seconds. The junior also posted a runner-up finish in the 50 free (22.11) to notch a "B" standard.
Westerind tallied his first "A" standard of the season as he led a plethora of Patriots in the 400 IM. The senior touched the wall in 4:22.33 to win the event.
Alan Senn (4:26.31),
Evan Hawkins (4:28.14),
Eddie Ceausu (4:28.95), and
Gustavs Baumanis (4:30.20) all achieved a "B" cuts in the event.
Kamnes touched the wall in 1:45.92 in the 200 free to finish second. Teammate
John Morgan McDonald posted a pair of wins on the day winning the 1000 free with a time of 10:03.06, before going 54.41 to take first in the 100 fly.
In the 50 free, Julio Heck da Silva led a trio of Patriots to "B" cuts as he went 21.98 to win the event.
Zane Spurlock placed third with a time of 22.42.
Nathan Souza added a "B" standard in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:01.40, while Baumanis went 58.23 to win the 100 back.
UC closed out the meet with McDonald, Westerlind,
Evan Hawkins, and Kamnes teaming up to win the 800 free relay with a time of 7:16.53. That time is the second fastest in the NAIA this season.
The Patriots will return to the water Friday, November 22, when they travel to Cleveland, OH to take part in the Cleveland State Magnus Cup. It will be a three-day meet with morning and afternoon sessions.
