Campbellsville, KY - The ninth-ranked UC women's wrestling team opened up their Mid-South Conference dual season at third ranked Campbellsville University. The Patriots were unable to overcome a 14-0 deficit and ended up losing 16-29.
The biggest win on the day came from unranked
Cynthia Pelayo at 130. The freshman was able to get the Patriots lone pin of the dual at 2:06 over fifth-ranked Charlotte Fowler.
Another freshman, who impressed in her Patriot debut, was the 191-pounder
Angela Buenrrostro. The Los Angeles, CAÂ native defeated seventh-ranked Liliana Vergara by a 12-4 decision.
Both Pelayo and Buenrrostro were the only wrestlers on either team to defeat an opposition ranked higher than them.
Madison Angelito moved up to the 123-weight class and picked up the Patriots first win of the day. The senior went down early 7-2 and then mounted an impressive comeback scoring eight unanswered points. Angelito won the match 10-7 to pick up her eighth win of the season.
Continuing her dominance of the season,
Bridgette Duty picked up win number 11. Wrestling up in the 143-weight class Duty notched her eighth tech fall defeating 12th ranked Randi Robison 13-2.
The Patriots will stay on the road for their next meet in Dallas, TX. UC will compete in the two-day U.S. Open starting on December 19.
