Williamsburg, KY – Patriots track & field teams are set to host the UC Invitational and Distance Carnival this weekend at the James H. Taylor Stadium. A total of 12 complete men's and women's teams will compete in the two-day competition, including the Cumberlands Patriots.
Among the twelve teams entered into the meet, five men's teams rank in the top-20 of
the USTFCCA's recent rating index, while three women's teams rank in the top-30. UC's men's team ranks 18th in the NAIA while the women's squad sits 101st.
Running events in Friday's Distance Carnival include the 3,000-meter steeplechase; 1,500-meter; 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter runs beginning at 6:30 PM and will continue under the lights. Field events for the day include hammer and javelin, beginning action at 3:00 PM.
The 5,000-meter racewalk begins day two's action, with the gun set to start the race at 9:15 AM, while field events will begin at 11:00 AM.
The Patriots six senior athletes will be honored on Saturday, April 13, taking place at noon. These seniors include two-time all-American Emmanuel Shabazz, three-time indoor national champion
Lucas Huelvan, cross country national qualifier
Garrett Faulkner, four-time all-American
Curtis Davenport, four-time conference shot put champion
Dominick Joseph, and national outdoor qualifier
Thomas Crawford.
During the meet, fans will also be able to witness the greatness of UC alumnus Brendan Kelly as he attempts a world record in the backwards mile. Kelly's exhibition race will take place following the senior recognition.
