Campbellsville, KY – The 18
th-ranked UC women's tennis team recorded the first five points of the match en route to a 7-2 win over 25
th-ranked Campbellsville Friday afternoon at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex. With the win the Patriots improve to 9-5 overall and 4-2 against the MSC, while the Tigers fall to 8-9 and 2-3 in conference play.
Cumberlands came out strong sweep all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead.
Mikaela Fros and
Sydney White recorded their sixth straight win with an 8-1 win over Brooklyn Harris and Kourtnee Hayes at #3 doubles. The tandem improves to 5-1 in conference play. The duo of
Jaclyn Jewell and
Tomomi Nagao followed as they took down the 17
th-ranked team of Brenda Aguilar and Bolor Enkhbayar 8-2. At #2 doubles,
Tessa Gray and
Grace Steely posted 8-6 win to complete the sweep.
UC's strong play continued in singles matches as Nagao defeated 45
th-ranked Aguilar 6-3, 6-2 at #1 singles to extend the lead to 4-0. Nagao improves to 10-3 on the season, including a 5-1 mark in the MSC. Jewell extends her win streak to four straight after posting a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rebeca Scurt to clinch the match.
Campbellsville got on the board with back-to-back wins at #2 and #4 singles to cut the lead to 5-2. At #5 singles Steely recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win over Harris to improve to 9-5 on the year with a 4-2 mark in conference play. Gray closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles. Gray improves to 9-3 on the year, including extending her win streak to six straight matches.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 13, when they host the UC Doubles Challenge. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
