Box Score Bowling Green, KY – The 19
th-ranked and third-seed UC women's tennis team looked to avenge aqn early season loss as they faced second-seed Georgetown however the Tigers earned a three-set win at #5 singles for the 5-4 win Friday afternoon at the Owensboro Tennis Complex. With the win the Tigers improve to 16-4, while the Patriots move to 10-6.
Cumberlands struck first as the duo of
Mikaela Fros and
Sydney White recorded an 8-4 win over Abigail Kennedy and Katie Swanson at #3 doubles. At #1 doubles
Tomomi Nagao and
Jaclyn Jewell, ranked 15
th in the NAIA, posted an 8-6 win to extend UC's lead to 2-0. Georgetown posted an 8-6 win at #2 doubles to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
The Tigers recorded straight set wins at #2 and #4 singles to take a 3-2 lead. Cumberlands rallied as Nagao tallied a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lauren Fazenbaker at #1 singles to even the score at 3-3. At #2 singles Jewell won the first set 6-2 and forced a tiebreaker in the second however Amanda Moore won the tiebreaker 7-4 to take the second and third sets 7-6, 6-0.
Tessa Gray, playing six singles, notched the equalizer with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win to make the score 4-4. In the decisive match, #5 singles,
Grace Steely dropped the first set, however rallied to win the second set 6-3. Katie Swanson took the third set 6-2 to clinch the match for Georgetown.
The Patriots will wait until Monday, April 29, when the NAIA National Office announces the qualifiers for the 2019 NAIA National Championships. UC is looking to make their third straight trip to Mobile, AL.
