Box Score Jefferson City, MO – The 20
th-ranked UC women's tennis team rallied from down two points to tie the match but it wasn't enough as the Patriots fell 5-2 to NCAA DII Carson-Newman Wednesday afternoon at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex. With the win the Eagles improve to 9-7, while the Patriots move to 7-5.
Carson-Newman struck first posting a 6-4 win at #2 doubles. The Patriots tied the doubles match as the tandem of
Mikaela Fros and
Sydney White defeated Alisa Liashova and Claire Smith 6-3 at #3 doubles. The duo improves to 7-3 on the season and extends their win streak to four straight matches. With the doubles point still up for grabs
Jaclyn Jewell and
Tomomi Nagao battled Ana Carla Resende and Ali Harris. The pairs traded points before the Eagles pulled away for the 7-5 win to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead into singles play.
In singles play, Liashova posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at #4 singles to extend their lead to 2-0. Cumberlands started to rally as Jewell knocked off Harris 6-3, 6-3 for her third win of the season and cut the deficit to 2-1.
Tessa Gray dropped her first set to Claire Smith 2-6 #6 singles, however rallied to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-0 to even the score at 2-2. It was the closest UC came as the Eagles posted straight set wins at #1, #3, and #5 singles for the 5-2 final.
Gray improves to 7-3 on the season and has won four straight matches.
The Patriots will return to the court Saturday, April 6, when they travel to Portsmouth, OH to face Shawnee State in a Mid-South Conference match. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
