Williamsburg, KY –The third-ranked UC men's swimming & diving team tallied 16 NAIA national cuts and 9 wins as they posted a 119.5-50.5 win over tenth-ranked Asbury Friday night at the Patriots Aquatic Center. With the win, the Patriots improve to 5-0 in dual meets the season and the third win over a ranked opponent.
Viktor Lyson and
John Morgan McDonald led the way for the Patriots with two wins and two "A" standards each. Lyson won the 100 back with a time of 52.12, before going 50.73 to take top honors in the 100 fly. McDonald continued his strong sophomore campaign placing first in the 200 free and the 500 free with times of 1:46.03 and 4:44.46, respectfully.
Julio Heck da Silva and
Zane Spurlock traded positions in the sprint freestyle events. Heck da Silva won the 100 free (50.14), before finishing runner-up in the 50 free (22.31). Spurlock touched the wall in 22.18 to take top honors in the 50 free however was out touched by 0.04 in the 100 free as he went 50.18.
Mikolaj Kala notched the Patriots final individual win. The newcomer swam 1:00.87 to win the breaststroke.
Mats Kamnes added an "A" standard in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.67.
Nathan Souza,
Evan Hawkins, and Trey Wolfram all achieved at least one "B" standard at the meet.
UC recorded a pair of relay wins as they finished first in both the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay.
The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, January 18, when they travel to Bristol, TN to face NCAA DII foe King University. The meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
