Williamsburg, KY –The third-ranked UC men's swimming & diving team posted 13 wins en route to their largest win margin of the season defeating Bethel 218-23 Saturday afternoon at the Patriots Aquatic Center. With the win, the Patriots finish their regular season with a perfect 8-0 in dual meet record.
Evan Hawkins led the way for the Patriots with three wins on the day, while
John Morgan McDonald notched a pair of wins. Hawkins touched the wall in 2:02.26 to win the 200 IM and achieve one of UC's five "B" cuts on the day. The freshman followed that up by taking top honors in the 100 back (56.95) and the 200 back (2:06.38).
McDonald recorded wins in both the 500 free and the 1000 free on the day. The sophomore went a "B" standard time of 4:56.29 in the 500, while touching the wall in 10:07.64 for the 1000.
Alex Mashburn,
Alan Senn, and
Viktor Lyson all notched a "B" cut on the day. Mashburn swam 53.50 to win the 100 fly, while Senn won the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.67. Lyson, one of the ten seniors honored prior to the meet, achieved a "B" cut in the 50 free (22.30) and won the 200 breast (2:26.37).
Senior
Joel Westerlind added another win to his impressive Patriot career by going 50.60 to win the 100 free.
Zane Spurlock and
Mats Kamnes notched wins in the 200 free and 100 breast, respectfully.
Cumberlands closed out the meet with Julio Hack da Silva,
Nathan Souza, Spurlock and Lyson teaming for a 3:19.81 to win the 400 free relay.
The Patriots will return to the water Thursday, February 6, when they travel to Kingsport, TN for the Mid-South Conference Championships. The Patriots are looking to successful defend their 2019 conference title. Live video of the competition will be available
