UC Splits Patriot Duals, Places 11 Wrestlers in Individual Tournament

Life Dual Results | Indiana Tech Dual Results | Individual Results

Williamsburg, KY –
The UC women's wrestling team hosted their annual Patriot Duals, this year welcoming both Life University and Indiana Tech. The teams squared off against one another in a team dual format and then competed in an individual tournament across the 10 weight classes.

#7 CUMBERLANDS FALLS TO #5 LIFE, 39-6
UC faced eight ranked wrestlers in the dual against Life including six in the top-ten of their respective weight classes. Despite sending five ranked wrestlers of their own to take on Life, the Running Eagles proved to be too much for UC, who only won a single match. Bridgette Duty needed just 19 seconds into the second period to secure her first win of the season, winning by a 10-0 tech fall against Hailey Finn, the 11th ranked wrestler at 143.  Duty was one of just three UC wrestlers to score a point in their match.

#7 CUMBERLANDS DEFEATS #16 INDIANA TECH, 25-23
The Patriots looked to regroup for their second dual of the day against Indiana Tech. Freshman, Elizabeth Dosado set the tempo for the Patriots earning a fall in the first 14 seconds of action in her 101 matchup. The fall was the first victory of Dosado's career and the first fall of the season for UC.

Indiana Tech won the next four matches to go up 18-5. Understanding that they needed points in a hurry Cumberlands recorded three pins in a row started by last year's pin leader, Andrea Schlabach, who used her signature headlock to secure the fall. Freshman, Emily Alderman followed suit in her first wrestling match for UC with a fall just under two minutes into the contest. Kailee Godinez rounded out the falls in her first match of the season, pinning her opponent at 2:25. The three falls gave UC a 20-18 and followed it up with a forfeit from both team in the final two matches.

136-WEIGHT CLASS
Proving to still be one of the best wrestlers in the NAIA, Duty picked up her second and third tech falls of the day in the 136-weight class at the Patriot Duals Individuals. She recorded two 10-0 wins and now has a 21-match win streak dating back to last season. Her two wins in the bracket earned her first place for her weight-class.

Schlabach also went 2-0 in the 136-weight class picking up her second fall of the day and winning a 3-2 decision. The results for the #3 ranked wrestler placed her second among the other 136 wrestlers.

Alderman placed fourth in her first tournament of her career winning three matches and losing just two matches, one of which was to Duty. Alderman blanked both of her opponents in her wins outscoring them 21-0.

143-WEIGHT CLASS
Both Godinez and Ashley Ikner went 3-1 to finish in first and second respectively. Godinez won all of her matches by fall with her fastest at 43 seconds. Combining her one fall from the duals Godinez tied her season high for falls in a single day of competition. Ikner was able to pick up two tech falls and a decision, outscoring opponents 32-3.

130-WEIGHT CLASS
Coming into the dual ranked 15th Ashley Tobe finished the individual tournament in third place, compiling a 2-1 record. She earned a fall and an impressive 31 second tech fall. Lena Taylor earned fourth place thanks to her first career win and fall victory.

101-WEIGHT CLASS
Only two wrestlers weighed in at 101, but #6 ranked wrestler, Dosado earned her first-place finish by pinning her opponent 31 seconds into the contest. The freshman now has two wins on the season, both from falls.

155-WEIGHT CLASS
After not competing in the 2019-20 season junior Bella Ricchiazzi returned to the mats with a fourth-place finish. Ricchiazzi won her two matches by 10-0 tech falls and two of her losses were from unattached former All-American wrestlers.

UC will be back in action when the travel to Indiana Tech on December 13 for the Warrior Open in Fort Wayne, IN. Indiana Tech does not permit fans at the event but there will be two mats for the event with livestreams for both. Mat one can be found here and mat two can be found here.
