Bowling Green, KY – Patriots swept the Mid-South Conference weekly honors for indoor men's track and field, announced by the conference office on Monday.
Matthew Chavers was named the field athlete of the week while Johnson took the award on the track.
Matthew Chavers noted 6.77 meters off the board in long jump for his first attempt of the season on Saturday at the Strive for Greatness Invitational. The mark led the collegiate attached competition through the first jumps. He improved the mark to 6.85 meters later on, finishing fifth overall in Fort Wayne, IN.
Carson Johnson chalked up the Patriots first NAIA qualifying time of the season, earning a bid to his second consecutive championship appearance in the 3,000-meter racewalk. The road to South Dakota began with a season opening time of 13:59.13 – his best start to a season as a Patriot – leading the field by 25 seconds.
It is the first week the MSC awards have been handed out for the 2021 indoor season. It is the second time in both athletes' careers earning the award; Chavers won the award week two of the season last year, Johnson taking it week three.
