Buenrrostro Picks Up Another Ranked Win in Patriot's Loss to Campbellsville

2/4/2020 10:43:00 PM

COMPLETE RESULTS
Williamsburg, KY -
Back on January 11th at the NWCA Duals, Angela Buenrrostro found herself pinned against Alexandra Castillo, who at the time was the #9 ranked wrestler at 191 for Campbellsville. In tonight's dual against Campbellsville, Buenrostro lined up against the familiar foe looking for a different result.

The North Hills, CA native got off to a quick 2-0 lead against Castillo who had moved up in the rankings to #6. Buenrrostro, now ranked #8, kept her momentum going and never trailed in the match and only gave up one point to Castillo. The freshman was able to fully redeem herself and beat Castillo by a 6-1 decision. This marks her second ranked victory over Campbellsville, adding to her 12-4 decision win over the then ranked #7 wrestler of Liliana Vergara on December 6.

The Patriots were unable to defeat Campbellsville as a team, losing 28-17. This was their fourth meeting of the season, with UC losing all three, but tonight was the closest result.

Olivia Coyne got Cumberlands off on the right foot taking down Katelin Barnett by pin at 5:12. This was just the third pin of the year for Coyne as the #9 ranked wrestler at 101. This win also got her to be above .500 on the year with a record of 10-9.

Pin leader for UC, Andrea Schlabach, added to her pin total against Angela Vitiritti. Schlabach secured the fall at 5:38 which improves her total to 11 on the season and puts the #5 ranked wrestler at 130 with 19 wins overall.

Coming off an impressive January, Bridgette Duty started February on the same note picking up her team best 24th win. Duty did find herself in unfamiliar territory down 4-0 and then later down 8-4. Then the #2 ranked wrestler at 136 did what she does best taking her opponent down by double blast and rattling off three consecutive leg laces. Duty would go on to win by a 16-12 decision.

This match did not count towards the team's overall MSC record, having their December 6 loss to Campbellsville officially count towards their conference record.

UC will look to regroup and square off in a tri-dual against two top-ten opponents with #9 Oklahoma City University and #10 Lyon College on February 15 in Batesville, AR.
