Phebe McHargue Named Patriots First NAIA All-American

Kansas City, MO – Two days after qualifying for their second straight NAIA National Championships, the UC Cheerleading program continued to make their mark in the NAIA as freshman Phebe McHargue was named a NAIA All-American, announced by the national office Tuesday.  McHargue becomes the first Patriot to be earn NAIA All-American honors and just the second UC cheerleader to earning national recognition.

"Phebe is a super talented athlete that has put together a terrific freshman campaign," said Head Coach RJ Conroy. "I'm super proud of how far she has come."

This is another accomplishment for McHargue, who has already garnered an impressive freshman campaign.  The Harlan, KY native already earned MSC First Team All-Conference honors. McHargue, along with Noah Colorusso, Amari Cotton, and Lauren Stokes that won the MSC title for mixed stunt team.

Cumberlands have averaged 80.78 points per six competitions this season, which ranked sixth in the NAIA.

McHargue joins Breanna Smith, who was a NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2019, as the only two Patriots in program history to earn national honors.

The Patriots will return to the mat Friday, March 13, when they travel to Davenport, Iowa to compete in the NAIA National Championships.  UC prelims will take place at 7:35 p.m. EST.
