Williamsburg, KY – In their final tune-up ahead of the MSC Championship, the second-ranked Patriots men's swimming team notched a pair of wins to improve to 6-0 on the year, Saturday morning at the Patriots Aquatic Center. UC defeated Bethel 172-18, while notching a 172-21 win over Midway to extend their win streak to 21 straight dual meets.
UC notched three NAIA provisional cuts, while taking first and second place in all 11 events at the meet. Leading the way for UC were
Alan Senn,
Enzo Esteves, and
John Morgan McDonald. Senn, the lone senior on this year's team, won the 200 free (1:48.66) and anchored both the winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Esteves and McDonald both notched a pair of wins on the day with one provisional cut apiece. Esteves touched the wall in 21.20 to win the 50 free, before taking top honors in the 100 back with a time of 55.07. Julio Hack da Silva clipped the NAIA provisional standard in the 50 free with a time of 21.49 en route to a runner-up finish.
McDonald pulled away from the competition in both the 1000 free and the 500 free. The junior went 10:02.15, which would be the fourth fastest time in the NAIA this season, for the 1000 free. He followed that up with a national qualifying time of 4:51.80 to win the 500 free by almost 18 seconds.
In the 100 free,
Mikolaj Kala edged out
Sean Britton 49.77 to 50.30 for the top spot, while
Nathan Souza placed first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.14.
Daniel Ruiz Ramis and
Martin Herion notched the final two wins of the meet taking the honors in the 100 fly (54.09) and the 200 IM (2:01.76), respectfully.
The Patriots will return to the water Thursday, February 4, when they travel to Kingsport, TN to take part in the MSC Championship. UC is seeking its third straight conference title.
