Williamsburg, KY –
Looking to start Mid-South Conference play on the right foot, seventh ranked UC women's wrestling welcomed sixteenth ranked Indiana Tech to Williamsburg. A back-and-forth matchup that saw the lead change six times, but Cumberlands would hold on to defeat the Warriors 25-22.

Elizabeth Dosado, ranked sixth, set the tone early holding off fifteenth ranked Whitley Blake in the 101-bout. Dosado got two points early, but then let Blake tie the match back up. Despite it being her first MSC match, Dosado held her composure and scored ten unanswered points earning the 12-2 tech fall victory.

Indiana Tech won the second match to have the 5-4 lead going into the 116-match. UC sent Jaine Stephens to the mat, up a weight class against Korigan Wilkey. Stephens was pushed off the mats within the first 20 seconds to go down 1-0. The sophomore then countered with a four-point takedown. Stephens carried her momentum the rest of the match eventually earning her first pin of the season less than two minutes in.

Continuing her dominance at tech fall victories, Bridgette Duty picked up her team high sixth win by ten match points or more. The senior blanked her opponent after just 1:10 into the match, 10-0. The highlight was Duty earning a four-point takedown after she superplexed her opponent to the mat. The win for the 2nd ranked wrestler at 136 gave UC the 14-13 lead heading into the final four matches.

In the fastest and most exciting match of the day, Ashley Ikner earned a victory by fall in just six seconds. Ikner had zero hesitation lunging for Alexandra Mireles' ankles as soon as the referee blew his whistle to start the match. The senior then flipped her opponent on her back straight into a fall. Her five team points extended the UC lead to 19-13.

Indiana Tech would surge back in front after earning a tech fall victory and fall win in the 155 and 170 matchups respectively.

Down 22-20 going into the final match the Patriots sent 16th ranked Chamira Cooper in the 170 weight class to the mats ready to earn her first ever MSC victory. Cooper would earn the win, but by forfeit since Indiana Tech did not have a 191 wrestler.

Cumberlands won the match 25-22 improving their record to 2-1 on the season while Indiana Tech is now 0-5 on the season. Not only was the win a MSC victory, the Patriots were celebrating their five seniors for senior day. Bridgette Duty, Ashley Ikner, Kailee Godinez, Olivia Coyne and Dorinda Andrews were all honored before the dual, being recognized for all they have done for the UC women's wrestling program.

Women's Wrestling Seniors

The five seniors were all members of the 2018-19 MSC Regular Season Championship for UC and tonight's win puts them in the right direction to earn the same feat this season.

The Patriots will return to the mats next weekend when they travel to York, Nebraska for the York College Duals and Open. The two-day event starts at 5 pm on January 15. Live stream for the tournament can be found here.
