Cumberlands in Fourth After Day One of the MSC Fall Invite

Bowling Green, KY- After day one of the MSC Fall Invite, the UC women's golf team currently sits in fourth place overall. Across 36 holes on Monday, Cumberlands notched a first round score of ­646 (+42).

Leading the way for the Patriots is Sharon Holczer. Holczer started the day on hole six and tallied five straight pars. The freshman got off to a hot start, recording 13 pars through her first round of 18 holes. The Caracas, Miranda native finished her first round of 18 holes with a 77 (+5). During her second round of 18 holes Holczer tallied her first birdie on the 14th hole, needing only four strokes to reach the pin. Holczer carded a second round score of 82 (+10) after tallying six pars and a birdie. Holczer's performance on day one garnered her a share of seventh place going into day two of the tournament.

Elena Hortian also finished day one in the top ten, earning a share if ninth place on the individual leaderboard. Through Hortian's first round of 18 holes for the day, she tallied 10 pars and two birdies. She carded a first 18 hole score of 77 (+5). The Mallorca, Spain native tallied back to back bogeys on the second round of 18 holes, before recording back to back pars on holes 11 and 12. During her second round of the day, the sophomore carded seven pars to finish with an 18 hole score of 83 (+11). Hortian will look to stay strong going into day two to earn her second straight top-ten finish of the fall.

Viviane Braun sits just outside the top ten after day one, coming in at tied for 11th through 36 holes. On her first round of 18 holes, the senior carded an 82 (+10) after tallying two birdies and six pars on the round. The Wegberg, Germany native improved on her second round of 18 holes on the day. She opened her second round with her third birdie of the day, needing only three strokes to reach the pin on the 122 yard par three. Braun then tallied four straight pars on holes nine through twelve to help her stay even through her first six holes of round two. Braun recorded 10 pars and a birdie through her second round of 18 holes to finish with a 36 holes score of 162 (+18).

Emily Allen finished day one tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Allen started the day on the eighth hole of the course, where she tallied her first birdie needing only three strokes to reach the pin. Through her first set of 18 holes on the day, the freshman carded a score of 80 (+8). Through her second round of 18 holes of the day, Allen tallied a score of 89 (+17). Through 36 holes, she carded 13 pars and a birdie to finish amongst the top-25 going into day two.

Maria Neira started the day on hole five, where she carded three straight pars. Through 18 holes, she finished with seven pars and a birdie to finish with an 18 hole score of 86 (+14). On her second round of 18 holes for the day, the Caracas, Venezuela native clubbed only five pars, four of which came on the back nine. The freshman finished with a 36 hole score of 171 (+27) to finish amongst the top-30 on the individual leaderboard.

Riley Clark and Kaley Wells competed as individuals in the tournament. Through 36 holes on day one, Clark carded a two round score of 169 (+25) to finish tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Wells finished day one tied for 39th on the individual leaderboard. The Annville, KY native carded a 36 hole score of 181 (+37).

The Patriots women's golf team will be back in action again tomorrow in Bowling Green, KY to compete in day two of the MSC Fall Invite.
