Charlotte, NC – Cumberlands men's cross country were in action Friday afternoon at the Royals Cross Country Challenge. UC placed 29
th and clocked their best total time of the season with multiple runners running career bests.
Kyle Woodward was the first Patriot to cross the finish line, running his best race as a Patriot with a time of 25:48.1. This earned the Rockfield, KY native 127
th place on the day.
Kevin Mengich posted his career best in Louisville last week, but it didn't last long as he set a new record on Friday. Mengich was the next UC runner to finish clocking a time of 26:37 placing 189
th.
Zach Pennington also ran a career best in this meet with a 29:35.4 8k time, earning 299
th.
Garrett Hadaway and
Carson Johnson were the final two Patriots racing on Friday with times of 30:29.8 and 31:04.4 respectively. This was Johnson's second career cross country race for UC as he normally competes in the racewalk event.
NCAA Division II Charleston (WV) placed first on the day with a score of 42. Division I Wake Forest and DII Wingate rounded out the top three team finishers. Fourth ranked Milligan was the top NAIA team at this event with a fourth place finish. Fellow MSC opponent and 19
th ranked Shawnee State placed 12
th in Charlotte on Friday.
The Patriots are back in action in two weeks on October 23rd in Grand Rapids, MI for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
