Versailles, KY – The sixth-ranked Cumberlands women's swimming team notched 25 top-three finishes as they closed out the 2021 portion of their schedule with a 161-34 win over MSC rival Midway Saturday afternoon.  The Patriots, who had majority of their swimmers doing off events, improve to 4-0 in dual meets.

Cumberlands opened the meet with Rebecca Loftus, Sara Overly, Kennedy Kirks, and Alli Lovell touching the wall in 2:02.39 to win the 200 medley relay. 

Maria Basto, Emilia Martinez Morales, and Hanne te Velthuis each recorded a pair of wins on the afternoon.  Basto took top honors in both the 50 free and the 100 free clocking times of 25.90 and 55.37, respectfully.  The sophomore's 100 free time clipped the NAIA provisional cut by over a half second.

Martinez Morales came out with a strong performance finishing with a time of 2:07.71 to win the 200 free by close to two seconds.  The freshman followed that up with a 1:14.32 in the 100 breast to notch her second win of the day. 

Te Velthuis began her meet going 2:17.88 in the 200 IM, before touching the wall in 1:02.87 in the 100 back.  Ali Pecore took top honors in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.97.  The freshman added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100 back (1:04.49) and the 200 IM (2:20.92).

In the distance free events it was Anastasiia Shatalova and Ashley Shoenlein, who recorded the wins.  Shatalova went 5:34.43 to place first in the 500 free, while Shoenlein notched an 11:34.23 in the 1000 free.

The Patriots will return to the water Friday, January 15, when they travel to Wilmore, KY to face Asbury and Lincoln College.  The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
