Cumberlands Caps off Patriot Duals With Three More Combined Wins

Cumberlands finished up the final day of the Patriot Duals, combing for three wins and just one loss. The UC red team was able to win the Blue Pool bracket while the blue team came in third place in the same bracket. Overall, the teams combined for a record of 8-6 with 34 pins, 429 match points, and 334 team points.

Over the course of the two-day tournament both Chamira Cooper and Jesse Kirby went undefeated, racking up seven wins. Cooper noted a fall and four tech fall victories, outscoring opponents 44-2. Kirby had five falls in the tournament, combining for 5:36 time on the mat, which is the third for most pins least time in the entire field of wrestlers.

The two teams had to face off against one another to start the day and it was the red team who came out victorious, 32-10. Jaine Stephens, Hailey Foster, Courtney Pittman, and Jesse Kirby all won their matches by fall for the red team while Allyson Arrington recorded one for the blue team. The red team's victory put them into the first-place match of their bracket while the blue team fell to the third-place match-up.

The red team had to face Limestone in their final match, the Saints were 3-3 at the Patriot Duals so far. The dual was evenly contested throughout with the last bout deciding the winner. Stephens got the wins going for UC, pinning her opponent at 1:04 in the109-match, putting them up 5-0. With Cumberlands now down 12-7, Pittman wasted no time getting a 10-0 tech fall with five, two-point takedowns to bring the team score within one point, 12-11. Kailee Godinez and Cooper each earned a tech fall combining for a score of 23-2. For the final bout UC had a narrow 19-18 lead, needing Kirby to pick up at least a decision to secure the win for the Patriots. After earning the 10-0 tech fall, Kirby finished the match by using her last two-point takedown to pin her opponent, giving UC the 24-18 victory.

For the blue team's final dual, they faced off against Lyon for a second time in the tournament. The Scots got the best of the Pats on day one with a score of 27-17, but UC was able to get revenge winning 29-15. Ashley Courtney got the team's lone fall in the dual while Arrington added a 10-0 tech fall win to give her a pair of wins on the day.

The Patriots will be back in action as they head to Fort Wayne, IN for the Warrior Open hosted by Indiana Tech. The Tournament will start at 8 AM with stats available here.
