RESULTS
Williamsburg, KY – Coming from behind The UC women's wrestling remained unbeaten against (RV) Brewton-Parker, defeating the Barons 26-22. The dual win gives Cumberlands their fourth of the season, and third Mid-South Conference win.
With the score at 22-11 in favor of Brewton-Parker,
Ashley Ikner headed to the mats for the 155-weight class match. Ranked #6, she had to face off against #9 India Page for the only top-ten matchup of the night. Page got out to a 6-0 lead on Ikner and had the senior close to a fall, however Ikner was able to escape and keep UC's chances of winning the dual alive. At the next reset, Ikner saw her opportunity, getting a two-point takedown where she flipped Page on her back on the outskirts of the mat. Ikner used her upper body to pin Page to the mat and earn the five-point win at 2:14 and put UC within striking distance down just 22-16.
In the 143 bout
Hailey Budney wasted little time in securing her win. The sophomore earned a two-point takedown and then rolled her opponent onto her back in a cradle. The move gave Budney the fall win at 27 seconds, her eighth fall this year, second fastest of the season.
Brewton-Parker had to forfeit three matches giving the Patriots crucial 15 team points. Winning 26-22 gives UC their second most points they have scored in a dual this season. The victory has UC finish in third place in the Mid-South Conference this season, compiling a 4-3 overall record and 3-2 conference record. Cumberlands' one match above .500 is the third time in four years they post a winning record.
Cumberlands will return to the mats on Saturday February, 20 for the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, KY.
