Bowling Green, KY - For the first time this season, UC tennis player Tomomi Nagao earned the MSC women's tennis player of the week award, announced by the conference office Monday. This marks the seventh time in Nagao's career that she has been named the MSC Player of the Week.
Nagao went 2-0 in both singles and doubles matches throughout the duration of the weekend in Harrogate, TN. Nagao opened with a win at #1 doubles paired with Mikaela Fros as they beat the University of Charleston's own Prinkle Singh and Haarini Balakrishnan 6-2. The junior then won her #1 singles match against Singh 7-6, 6-1, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Patriots.
The following day against Bluefield State College, Nagao, once again, won her #1 singles and doubles matches posting another win with Fros as they beat Shreya Chakrabarly and Jimenez 6-3, and then Chakrabarly in two sets 6-2, 6-2. The wins helped Cumberlands improve to 2-0 to start the season.
The Patriots will return to the court on Wednesday, February 24, in Barbourville, KY where they will face #14 Union College.
