Pikeville, KY – Competing for the second time in as many days, the Patriots cheerleading team are peaking at the right time after tallying a program-best score in both of their performances Monday night. UC posted two wins over Pikeville in their dual Monday night.
"The team really showed to perform with the two highest scores during the competitive cheer era at UC, which is an accomplishment in itself as we wait to hear about nationals," said Head Coach
RJ Conroy.
Coming off a season-best score of 83.78 at the Saints Spectacular, the Patriots carried that momentum in their first performance Monday night. Cumberlands put on their best performance of the season, tallying a score of 85.25, before the 0.75 deduction lowered their score to an 84.5. For UC it was the best score of the season as they defeated the Bears, who scored a 77.3.
In the second round, the Patriots hit a flawless routine to post a season-best score of 85.95. That score is the best in the program's three-year history as a competitive championship sport and defeated UPIKE, who finished with an 80.25.
It marks the third and fourth times this season that the Patriots surpassed the 80.0 point plateau. On the season, Cumberlands has averaged an 80.69, which jumps them two spots to 11
th in the NAIA.
The Patriots will now wait until Sunday to find out if they qualified for the NAIA National Championship. UC is seeking its third straight appearance at nationals.
