Box Score Williamsburg, KY – Bouncing back after Wednesday's loss, the #23 UC women's tennis team dominated the Olivet Nazarene Tigers with a 6-1 win on Friday morning at UC Tennis Complex. The Patriots now improve to 3-1 on the season overall.
Cumberlands controlled most of singles play as they posted five of the six singles wins against the Tigers. Tomomi Nagao started singles play off well in the #1 spot against Narjis Mzibri with a huge 6-4, 6-1 win to take the early 1-0 lead. However, UC would drop the #2 singles match to let the Tigers tie up the score at 1-1. At the #3 and 4 singles spot, Laura Marie and Hana Shimeno were able to take the lead back for Cumberlands as they posted wins against Susan Shin and Abigail Wakeley at 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 which put the macth score at 3-1. Ultimately taking the match for the Patriots at 4-1 was Johanna Beckmann, who defeated Coco Ruggiero 6-1, 6-0. Satsuki Mitani was able to take the last singles match of the day at the #6 spot against Audrey Zoeteman with the win at 6-1, 6-0, which gave UC the commanding 5-1 lead heading into doubles play.
With the first match in doubles, the #13 nationally-ranked duo of Nagao and Mikeala Fros won their #1 doubles match against Heidi Moyo and Mzibri with a final score of 6-3. Beckmann and Mitani continued with the hot hand as they went on to win their #2 doubles match against Nirva Patel and Shin with the 6-0 shutout. In the final match of the day, Tessa Gray and Marie also posted a 6-0 shutout in the #3 doubles spot against Zoeteman and Ruggiero. Following the doubles win, the Patriots took the 6-1 win over the Tigers.
The Patriots return to the court Saturday, February 26 to take on Arizona Christian University at 5:00 P.M. in Lexington, KY.
