Box Score Lexington, KY - The #23 ranked Patriots women's tennis team posted their first sweep of the season along with their second win in two days as they defeated Arizona Christian University 7-0 Saturday evening. The UC women's tennis team now moves to 4-1 overall on the season.
Posting her fourth win of the season at the #1 singles spot,
Tomomi Nagao dominated Deondra Bacchus as she won 6-0, 6-0 to give Cumberlands the 1-0 lead in the match. Bouncing back after her loss yesterday against Olivet Nazarene,
Mikaela Fros was impressive as she cruised past Karla Grobbelaar 6-2, 6-0 to take the win in #2 singles.
Laura Marie and
Hana Shimeno were up next as they continued the winning trend when they snatched the #3 and #4 singles matches with wins against Sydney Smyth and Samantha Salim at 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively. With the match already in hand at 4-0 going into #5 singles,
Johanna Beckmann also posted a shutout victory as she beat Sylvie Schoenen 6-0, 6-0. For the #6 singles,
Satsuki Mitani posted a win by forfeit to give the Patriots the 6-0 lead going into doubles play.
Nagao and Fros, who are the #13 ranked duo in the NAIA at #1 doubles, extended their win streak to five-straight and remain perfect on the year as they beat Bacchus and Grobbelaar 6-4. With the third Cumberlands shutout of the day, Beckmann and Marie won their #2 doubles match against Salim and Smyth at 6-0. Mitani and
Tessa Gray would go on to win their match by forfeit to let UC take the doubles point, and ultimately the match, at 7-0.
The Patriots return to the court on Thursday, March 4 when they take on Grace College at the UC Tennis Complex in Williamsburg, KY. The first serve is set for 2 PM.
