Owensboro, KY – Despite the doubles win, The #14 UC men's tennis dropped their semifinal matchup against Cumberland University at 4-2 on Saturday evening. Following the loss, the Patriots sit at 17-3 overall.
Cumberlands was red-hot in doubles play as Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub defeated Sacha Colombian and Felipe Coelho at 6-3. Continuing the stellar play from UC was Robert Wu Hung-Ju and Martin Muller as they snagged the doubles point with a 6-3 win versus Hugues N'Goma and German Suarez. With the doubles point already secured, the #2 match went unfinished.
Barbier continued the hot-hand for the Patriots as he ran through Felipe Coelho in two sets to put Cumberlands up at 2-0 for the match. However, the Phoenix would come back to take both the #4 and #3 singles matches to tie the match score up at 2-2. Luis Montull and Banoub would both go on to put up serious three-set fights in both the #2 and #5 singles matches, but they wouldn't be enough as the Phoenix took both and the match win at 4-2.
The Patriots will now await for a bid to NAIA Tournament that will be played in May.
