Owensboro, KY – Despite showing serious grit throughout singles and doubles play, the #15 UC Women's team fell in their MSC Championship match against #16 Lindsey Wilson at 4-2. Following the loss, the Patriots move to 19-3 overall.
Cumberlands started off doubles play well as Tessa Gray and Laura Marie posted a 6-2 win over Reshma Challarapu and Carla Alibert to take the early advantage. However, it would not be enough as UC would go on drop the #1 and #3 doubles matches, which let the Blue Raiders take the 1-0 match lead heading into singles play.
The Patriots struggled at the start of singles play as they were defeated in the #4 singles and would go down 0-2 on the match, but were able to fight back over the course in the #6 and #3 singles spots. Satsuki Mitani was able to run through Alibert in two sets in the #6 singles match that cut the Blue Raiders lead to 2-1. Marie resumed Cumberlands momentum as she posted a commanding two-set win at 6-1, 6-2 over Challarapu in the #3 singles spot that tied the match score at 2-2. Unfortunately, the effort would not be enough as the Blue Raiders took the #2 and #5 singles matches, which allowed them to walk away with the match win at 4-2. With the match already clinched, the #1 singles match would go unfinished.
The Patriots will now await for a bid to NAIA Tournament in May.
