Lebanon, TN – Despite dropping the doubles point, the #17 UC women's tennis team swept all of singles play against #25 Cumberland University to take the 6-1 win. Following the win, the Patriots improve to 15-2 overall and a perfect 9-0 in MSC play.
Cumberlands struggled in doubles play as Laura Marie and Tessa Gray took the only win in the #3 spot at 6-4 against Marcela Cordeiro and Anna Kopituk. However, UC picked up the pace in singles play.
The first to finish in singles play for the Patriots was Hana Shimeno in the #4 spot as she took down Ksenija Dmitrovic in two sets at 6-1, 6-0 to tie up the match at 1-1. Marie and Johanna Beckmann continued Cumberlands success as they also won their #3 and #5 singles matches in two sets that extended the UC lead to 3-1. Ultimately winning the match at 4-1 for the Patriots was Satsuki Mitani as she defeated Cordeiro at 7-5, 6-3. With the most impressive win of the match, Tomomi Nagao ran through #22 Ainhoa Garijo Garrido in the #1 spot in just two sets, which added on to the Cumberlands lead at 5-1. Closing out singles play for UC was Mikaela Fros who won her three set battle against Jessica Hernandez at 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, and completed the singles sweep to make the final score 6-1 for the day.
The Patriots return to the court on Friday, April 9 to take on Martin Methodist at 1:00 P.M. in Pulaski, TN.
