Cleveland, TN – In addition to the new personal best for
Tristan Petrey, the pole vaulter recorded a new Patriots record and first to note an NAIA standard in the event.
Ken Cobb also notes his first NAIA qualification as a Patriot, leading the way in the 100 meters.
Petrey came into the day with his previous best of 4.50 meters during the indoor season, 4.40 meters during outdoor. He made a previous attempt at the high bar at the MSC Championships, narrowly missing the clear. At the Lee Last Chance, Petrey cleared 4.75 meters in his second attempt to secure the new Cumberlands record and NAIA B standard.
Cobb finished ninth overall in the 100 meters but picked up a lot of ground en route to the NAIA B-cut. He improved by 0.04 to 10.65 seconds down the straight. He becomes the first NAIA qualifier in the event since the Patriots national champion back in 2019.
Petrey lands in the top-15 of the NAIA with his finish at the Lee University Last Chance. Cobb, meanwhile, now ranks in the top-32 of the country.
Miguel Reis posted a pair 400-meter dashes of sub-50 seconds at the MSC Championships, doing so for only the third time this season on Saturday afternoon. He finishes the season with a time of 49.26 seconds.
Matthew Chavers completed his fist outdoor season, marking 6.91 meters off the board in long jump. It was his second-best mark of the season.
Jhawan Horton capped his season as well, tossing 43.90 meters in hammer throw. He noted the mark in his first attempt of the day to carry him to the finals, a pair of fouls limited his chances at improving more. Horton took ninth overall at the last chance meet.
The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship begins on May 26 in Gulf Shores, AL. The national office will soon release the finalized list of qualifiers for the meet.
